An In-depth Introduction

The devastating Auckland floods in January 2023 had far-reaching effects throughout the region, with countless homes and businesses seriously damaged. But it wasn't just small buildings that were affected - many large commercial properties and community centres were also flooded and required intensive repairs. One such building was this Community Centre in Pukekohe.

The Community Centre had suffered badly in the floods, with a huge volume of water surging through the building. The auditorium and six large rooms were left heavily damaged as flood waters rose more than a metre. Furthermore, water remained in the centre after the initial flooding had receded, causing ongoing damage and a stressful situation for the centre.

Fortunately, the local Auckland Central Oncore team was there to help the community navigate the reinstatement process.

Flood Restoration Specialist Advice in Auckland

Auckland Central Oncore owner Mike Clayton met with the owners of the property and assured them he could take care of every element of the repair process. Repairing a building can be difficult even under normal circumstances, but the flooding made it particularly stressful. It was therefore crucial to have an expert on board who knew the process and could manage the entire project. Checkout why Michael is our property maintenance specialist in Auckland Central

Mike assessed the property and discovered significant damage. The building would need cleaning, sanitation and drying, building and electrical work, plus finishing and fittings. The building was over 1300 square metres so it would require a large team, but Mike had an experienced network of professionals he worked with who he would coordinate to deliver the work to an impeccable standard.

A Great Flood & Water Damage Restoration in Auckland Central

Mike began the detailed process repairing the building by firstly ensuring the property was clean, sanitised, and dry enough for work to begin. Damaged material was removed, and the property was cleaned by a specialist team. To address the damp framework that was still holding a significant amount of moisture, each of the large spaces were isolated to concentrate the air and provide the heat required to adequately dry the frames.

Once the spaces were dry, the reinstatement could begin. In the large auditorium, the existing stage could be reused but required council consent. Mike engaged an engineer to provide all the information needed by the local council and to ensure the structure was safe. The aluminium doors were also able to be salvaged and Mike's team ensured they were in good working condition.

Throughout the building, all walls were cut out above the flood line and reinstated with additional nogging. Once re-gibbed and a flat bar installed over the sheet join, professional painting had things looking brand new. Electrical work was completed including smoke alarms, and new ramps were installed at the entrance way along with two new sets of stairs.
